The popularity of domestic products is increasing every day, but the production of food for pets still has little competition, so it will now be easier to start a business. The production of food for cats and dogs is quite interesting, and most importantly a profitable business, and earning from pets has many directions.
We form a range of products
When undertaking the production of feed for cats and dogs, keep in mind that animals need the same variety of food as humans. In addition, it must be balanced.
Engage in the production of dry and canned types of feed, namely,
- canned food: minced, homogenized mashed potatoes, slices with sauce or jelly,
- wet food - pieces in sauce that have less moisture than canned food,
- dry (80% of sales).
- Economy class: low quality products, by-products, low-grade cereals, soybeans are used, with regular use, a deficiency of vitamins in the body may occur (about 30% of sales),
- standard class (about 40% of sales) includes all the necessary substances for proper nutrition of animals,
- premium class: made from meat products, easily digestible (25% of sales),
- super premium: have a balanced composition, high nutritional value and digestibility, it’s better to have your own mini-farms or vegetable gardens, because the products must be of the highest quality, chicken, lamb, eggs, cereals, turkey are used in the production (5% of sales),
- holistic: the most expensive food, which has a special method of preparation, is completely balanced, as close as possible to the natural diet, includes products that are suitable for human consumption, this food is produced only by reservation.
The production of animal feed as a business will be more successful if you engage in the manufacture of standard-grade feed. Select a recipe based on the age and physiology of the animal.
The business plan for the production of feed can be focused on cat food, because the number of owners of these animals is about 70%, in addition, they prefer to feed dogs with ordinary food. Your main customer is a middle-class man.

The bulk of sales will be made through specialized stores or outlets. Keep in mind that every year online stores are becoming more popular and successful, so take care to create a site.
Raw material preparation
Production dry feed for cats and dogs requires the presence of:
- cereal crops
- meat products
- additives - vitamins, useful microelements.
For the manufacture of canned food more liquid and meat products are needed:
- meat and bone tails,
- animal fats,
- other offal.
Cereals, vitamins, and trace elements are also added to this species.
Particular attention is paid to the selection and storage of raw materials and finished products - they use special refrigerators to prevent mold from occurring, they use inhibitors, as well as airtight packaging when packing products.
Do not forget! Any manufacturing company has its own secret formula, which distinguishes it from competitors. Design your unique line-up.
Read the regulatory documentation, namely “Feed for non-productive animals. General specifications ”to help you comply with acceptable standards.
- Dry - pressing: ghosting the raw material to a homogeneous consistency, then mixing, extruding, drying.
- Wet: when mixing the raw materials, the temperature is gradually increased to obtain jelly from starch, packaging in banks, sterilization.
To implement different methods, you will need different equipment for the production of food for dogs and cats.
The whole process of making food for dogs or cats consists of the steps:
- preparation of the recipe, exact compliance,
- grinding of raw materials
- thorough mixing
- mixing of raw materials (either automatically or manually),
- adding hot water
- steam, pressure, heat treatment,
- the mixture leaves through special heads that form the finished product, in the process there is an increase in volume,
- drying products
- spraying fat with the addition of vitamin C, E, other components on finished products,

A few animal business ideas
Food for fish and parrots is also needed. Why not make or sell their food. Pet lovers are enough, because customers will be. Read the business plan here.
Feeding livestock and birds is an important aspect of their production, because farmers are strictly concerned with the choice of feed. Learn how to open your granular grass business.
Combined feed production is a more expensive area, but it will also be cost-effective for at least a decade. Hurry up and open your feed factory.
What is feed?
This is the name of the combined feed composition for birds or animals. It is made on the basis of high-quality grain raw materials, fish, meat or meat and bone meal, as well as mineral and vitamin supplements that compensate for the lack of trace elements in winter, autumn and spring.
In the same poultry industry (in its industrial version) you cannot do without such feed at all, since otherwise it is simply impossible to provide the bird with everything necessary. Thus, the composition of quail food includes many vitamins that are simply not found in standard feeds. If you do not use such additives on a daily basis, then you can not count on obtaining large gains and egg volumes.
What assortment to focus on?
In order for your production of animal feed to justify all the costs of it, you need to determine in advance the range of products. If you approach this issue without proper attention, you simply will not fit into this niche of the market, in which there are already enough strong players.
Firstly, there is concentrated feed, which in its pure form is not used for feeding. It is used only to dilute conventional feed.Similar to this type are balancing additives, which are used to compensate for the shortage of certain minerals or trace elements in a particular region.
Finally, there are still full feeds. It is the production of animal feed of this type that is the most promising, since it does not require high equipment costs. The fact is that the manufacture of concentrates and balancing additives requires not only serious material support, but also specific raw materials, which in many cases will have to be bought abroad.
Naturally, in this case, one does not have to think about high profitability.
What is compound feed by its consistency?
Firstly, they distinguish the traditional loose type, which can differ in fine, medium and large grinding. Recently, the granular type has become popular, as it is easier to dose, and animals eat it more willingly.
Finally, the production of animal feeds may include the production of briquetted feed, which is especially suitable for use in farms that breed cattle.
What kind of preference? Experts say that in recent years, consumers have preferred granular varieties.
What raw materials are used in production?
So, what raw materials will you need to purchase in order to produce animal feed? The business plan should include the purchase of high quality hay, straw and oilcake. Of course, you will need a large amount of grain raw materials, which you need to purchase only from trusted suppliers.
Have you bought a batch of grains affected by fungal spores? A whole batch of feed will be sent for rejection, and you are guaranteed litigation with farmers who have poisoned animals.
Even more difficult is the situation with meat and bone, meat and fish meal. These products should be completely fresh, they will deteriorate quickly, and there are not so many enterprises that produce them. Solve this issue in advance! Finally, supplements with vitamins and minerals. They are definitely purchased only through official representatives of manufacturers. You can find out about these at local Zoovetsnaba offices.
Basic feed example
Consider, for example, the basic composition of quail food. It includes about 50% of high-quality durum wheat and about 15% of soybean meal. At the last moment I would like to dwell in more detail.
The fact is that soybean meal in recent years is increasingly being prepared by chemical means, using a lot of reagents. It is impossible to feed quails with such products! Therefore, you will have to immediately look for a normal supplier.
Among other things, it will require more than 10% of fresh and not rancid fishmeal, about 0.7-1% of fish oil (however, its need depends on the quality of the flour), as well as mineral additives. These include limestone flour, salt and monocalcium phosphate. This is the easiest option for feeding birds.
We get equipment
As a rule, home business technologies do not provide for the acquisition of really expensive equipment. It is nice that the production of animal feed is no exception. So, for a small home factory you can buy the same line LPKG-1 for the production of granular feed for farm animals.
Up to a ton of compound feed can be produced on this equipment per hour, and only three people are required to work on the line. This equipment costs about 1 million 200 thousand rubles.
If you need more power, it makes sense to look in the direction of a similar line LPKG-3. It produces already up to three tons of feed per hour, and the number of staff increases to only four people.
A bit about staff
In this case, there is also the positive aspect that it is possible to attract unskilled workers.
It will only be necessary to hire one technologist who will be responsible for the correct dosing of mineral and vitamin supplements, while the rest of the workers will be busy loading raw materials and unloading finished products. Since the lines are fully automated, special intervention in their work is not required.
Thus, if you purchase this equipment for domestic production, then it will be possible to establish the production of compound feed for only two to three million rubles.
Of course, there is no escape from the cost of purchasing raw materials, but it is not possible to give concrete figures here. The cost of the same grain is constantly jumping, so in this matter it is better to rely on local specialists who know the realities of a particular region.
Cat and Dog Food
But all of the above information will be useful to you only if you plan to organize the production of feed for the needs of the agricultural sector. Are there any relatively affordable home business technologies that provide for the adjustment of food for cats and dogs? After all, the cost of the same canned pet food is very high!
Alas, in this case, everything is somewhat more complicated. To start with, you need to buy meat and offal to produce this type of food. You understand that their cost will be much higher than the price of the same hay or grain, which is used in the production of animal feed.
Consider what specifically will be required to start the production of dry food for cats and dogs.
What equipment for home production will have to be purchased in this case? Firstly, you need a special dough mixing machine. Yes, do not be surprised: all products are first processed into a mass with a pasty consistency.
But much more important is the screw extruder into which this “dough” is fed for the purpose of molding finished feed pellets. A good extruder with high performance can cost you 600 thousand. Finished granules enter the air conveyor, on which they are dried, falling into a stream of warm air.
This process ends in a three-tier dryer. In most cases, the feed enters a special drum, where it is additionally treated with flavoring agents.
If we talk about how canned dog food is produced, then in this case it is necessary to purchase an industrial meat grinder, lines for boiling and packaging the feed, as well as an autoclave for sterilization of the finished product.
Features of the production of dry feed
An important step in the production of dry feed was the widespread use of such technical innovations as the extruder. In fact, the principle of extrusion has been known for a very long time, and its simplest option is an ordinary household meat grinder. But naturally, modern extruders used in the food industry are a complex multifunctional machine.
During the production of dry feed, the nutritional mixture in the form of minced meat is heated to a temperature of 90–150 ° C and passed under high pressure through the forming holes. It turns out the same harnesses that you see when you pass the meat through a meat grinder.
Then these bundles are cut, molded and dried - this is how everyone knows the familiar light granules, usually in the form of balls. True, sometimes they are given an attractive color or a funny form, but this is done solely for the pleasure of the owners - the animals do not care what they eat.
The main role for them is played by the smell, and above all the aroma of meat, because we will not forget that cats and dogs are predators, and domestication has not changed this fact.
The main criterion by which feeds differ among themselves is the quality of the feedstock, primarily animal protein sources. High-quality feeds use meat and meat offal (for example, liver or kidneys - what is called "offal" in cooking).
Cheaper feeds use products left over in the meat processing plants after the most delicious parts of the carcass were sent to the shelves in the butcher shops - veins, blood and bones. On the labels such ingredients are often referred to as “meat processing products”.
Why do we need dehydrates?
The extrusion process imposes a number of restrictions on the use of fresh or raw meat in dry feed. If there is too much of it, then it will not be possible to achieve the desired temperature and high protein content, because fresh raw materials contain a lot of water.
Therefore, in dry feeds, dehydrated, dried meat must also be used, from which water and some animal fats have been removed, resulting in a product with a high protein content. Close to it in its properties and such a common ingredient as meat flour is dried meat, ground into powder.
The most common type of meat for the production of dry feed is chicken - an inexpensive and complete source of animal protein. However, manufacturers now offer a wide selection of feeds based on turkey, lamb, pork, fish, as well as rations with the addition of meat of such "exotic" species of animals and birds, like ostrich, deer or wild boar.
Unfortunately, to make dry food from pure meat without additives will not work. In order for the components to bind together, sources of carbohydrates are needed. At the dawn of the production of dry feed, almost exclusively wheat or corn was used, but later other sources of carbohydrates appeared in the composition of dry feed - rice, barley, potatoes or legumes.
Cereals serve as a source of carbohydrates and vegetable protein and, in some cases, when it comes to whole grain products, such as brown rice, then fiber. Most often, cereals are added to the feed in the form of flour.
The use of potatoes and legumes is a relatively late trend associated with changing orientations in people's nutrition, when gluten-free foods and the rejection of cereals are becoming more and more popular. According to some experts, grain-free feeds are no better than conventional ones, but if your pet is allergic to wheat or corn, then they can be a good substitute.
However, according to scientists, the risk of developing an allergy to cereals is lower than to dairy and meat products. According to studies, the most common allergens for dogs are beef, dairy products, chicken and wheat. For cats, this is beef, fish and chicken.
Animal fats are another essential nutrient. They are not only sources of energy, but also necessary for the functioning of the cardiovascular and reproductive systems, help to absorb fat-soluble vitamins, such as A, D, E and K, contribute to the shine of the coat.
Typically, dog and cat foods use fish and chicken fats. However, sometimes animal fat is replaced with vegetable fat, and this is bad, because plant oils do not contain many important substances.
Fiber is a hard shell of a plant cell, which is not digested in the body, but it improves intestinal motility and serves as a breeding ground for friendly microflora. Beets are most often used as a source of fiber in feeds, but this is not the same table beets that we add to borsch or vinaigrette. We are talking about the pulp of sugar beets left after sugar production, on the label this product is indicated as beet pulp.
Actually there is practically no sugar left in the pulp, but it contains a lot of fiber, which improves the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. Many producers add a variety of vegetables and fruits to their products, and they can also serve as an additional source of fiber, although beet pulp is not inferior in its properties to them.
Vitamins and Minerals
Special standards have been developed for the production of dry feed, and all industrial diets for dogs and cats must contain a certain amount of nutrients, minerals and vitamins. As you know, the latter are very sensitive to high temperatures, so most often the vitamin-mineral premix (as is usually indicated on the label) is sprayed onto the granules from above after extrusion.
The shelf life of dry animal feed is usually 12–18 months. How is it possible to save the product for such a long time? On the one hand, the temperature treatment of the feed is already a kind of sterilization, in addition, the development of most bacteria requires a moist environment, and there is very little moisture in dry feed - about 8%.
But on the other hand, animal feed contains a large amount of fat, and here they are the main problem - over time, as they say in everyday life, fats rancid, and scientifically oxidized.
In order to stop the oxidation process, antioxidants are added to the feed - substances that protect fats from the harmful effects of oxygen. Twenty years ago, special chemical compounds were mainly used as antioxidants, but since the beginning of the 1990s, natural antioxidants have become increasingly popular.
These include vitamin E (another name is a mixture of tocopherols) and plant extracts, such as rosemary extract. The effectiveness and safety of these additives has been proven: for example, according to studies, tocopherol mixtures can withstand temperatures up to 150 ° C, and their shelf life is about 2 years.
Probiotics and Prebiotics
Some foods contain probiotics and prebiotics. Probiotics are living microorganisms that improve digestion, normalize the intestinal microflora and strengthen the immune system.
Prebiotics are food for beneficial bacteria: not digested in the stomach and upper intestines, they enter its lower intestines and contribute to the development of balanced microflora. To prebiotics include fiber contained in cereals and vegetables, as well as inulin.
The use of probiotics in dry food is not an easy task, since many microorganisms are not able to survive at extrusion temperatures, but there are also resistant strains. Such, for example, include Bacillus subtilis (hay bacillus) and Bacillus licheniformis, which are common in the soil.
These microorganisms are especially useful for city animals, especially for cats that never leave the apartment.
Current state of animal feed industry
Over the past 20 years, the animal feed industry is increasingly moving closer to the food industry, both in technology and in the quality of the ingredients used. Manufacturers are required to publish the true composition of each product, the percentage of the main components and their sources, the raw materials undergo a mandatory quality and safety check.
Owners are increasingly making the same high demands on feed for their dogs and cats as they are on their own food. Thanks to this, manufacturers are developing new technologies for the production of better feed, increase the percentage of meat in their diets, and use natural preservatives.
At the same time, it is important to remember that the body of dogs and cats is different from the human body, and this must be taken into account when choosing how to feed a pet.
IT tools used in the Hati project
Pet owners are a solvent audience that spares no money on their pets, that is exactly what entrepreneur Andrei Pushkin thought, having successfully launched a chain of hotels for cats several years ago. And in 2018, he introduced a new product to the market - Hati raw cat and dog food, counting on high demand.But the hype has not yet been observed, and the entrepreneur has to make a lot of efforts for sales. Hat3 founder Andrei Pushkin told Biz360.ru how production of natural pet food is organized.
Andrey Pushkin, 35 years old, entrepreneur from Moscow, founder of a company producing natural food for animals Hati . He graduated from the Economics Department of Moscow State University, after which he worked as a financial analyst in the holding “Airports of the Regions”, then - in the state corporation “Rosatom”. In 2014 opened a hotel for animals "Sir Cat" in the center of Moscow, which has grown into a network of four establishments. Hati project launched in 2018.
In 2014, Andrei Pushkin, who had worked as a financial analyst for seven years before, launched his first business project, the Sir Cat Hotel for animals. To this he was prompted by a desire for self-fulfillment and a love of animals.
“In the office, I lacked a complex task that I could carry out“ from ”and“ to ”. There you are a screw in a big car, not an independent unit. In "Sir Cat" my soul warms me, what I came up with and did this project with my own hands. Although some said - well, the man quit from Rosatom to deal with cats, ”Andrei recalls.
This business is developing successfully, today Sir Cat is a chain of four hotels in Moscow. But in 2018, Andrei wanted to implement some new project from another area. “As I revolved in the animal world all the time, thoughts involuntarily went precisely in this direction. In animal hotels, I saw that some owners brought raw meat as food for their cats. And I thought about creating natural animal feed, ”says Andrei Pushkin.
Another reason to turn to this niche was a dog of the Chihuahua breed, which often visits Andrey. She ate canned food all the time. At some point, the entrepreneur thought about why people consider it normal to feed their animals with canned food, while they themselves eat as fresh food as possible. And why, choosing products for themselves, people look at the expiration date, but don’t do that with food for their pets?
Andrei thought that the rules of healthy eating that people apply to themselves should be applied to pets. We need food that will become an alternative to ready-made feed for industrial production.
Andrei expected that food from natural raw meat would be in demand among Moscow owners of dogs and cats. Therefore, he decided to start production for the production of such food - and founded the Hati project.
When developing his product - sausages in a polyamide shell made from raw meat and offal (there are options with the addition of vegetables and cereals) - Andrei Pushkin relied on feed requirements existing in Europe and the USA. Together with Russian veterinarians, the project team worked out the recipe and ratio of ingredients.
After that, it was necessary to solve the question in which packaging to release the food: sell raw meat in pieces, in the form of nuggets or sausages. When working out each option, the idea with sausages seemed the most optimal.
“It was important to decide on the form of release at the investment stage in order to buy suitable equipment. If you change your mind later, it will be too late. We had to take responsibility, although we did not know whether our customers would like the sausage format, ”says Andrei Pushkin.
The necessary equipment was purchased in Belarus. But with him, the project team had to torment before it turned out to produce sausages of the right weight.
“The equipment arrived, so brilliant and beautiful, and at first we looked at him like sheep at the new gate. They did not know what to do with it. While setting up the equipment and making the first experimental batches, we used about 100 kilograms of raw materials, ”says the entrepreneur.
All sausages in the first lots were of different weights. And in accordance with GOST for the production of food for pets, the deviation in the mass of each product should be no more than 1%. Here, some sausages were obtained weighing 90 grams, the next - 120 grams.
“I looked at all this, and I was not well. We still did not have time to think about sales, but with production we have already stepped on such a rake. Although according to the passport the equipment was supposed to give an error within 1%, ”Andrei recalls.
It was possible to correct the situation after a call to the manufacturer. His representatives explained that some changes were needed in the design of the “syringe” that delivers the meat to the package. When this was done, sausages of the right weight began to be obtained.
Andrei first offered to test finished products for free to his friends and acquaintances who have pets. He asked them for an honest assessment of the feed. The response was positive, but a number of changes due to feedback still made. We switched from a 7-layer shell to a 2-layer one and reduced the diameter of sausages from 45 to 32 millimeters. As a result, the product is faster frozen in the shock freezing chamber (30 minutes), it is faster defrosted at the client's house and is easier to remove from the packaging.
For production, I had to look for a suitable room for about 3 months, since there are certain requirements for meat shops (for example, flushing in the floor, tiled floors and walls up to two meters, electric power 50 kW, etc.). Andrei Pushkin looked only at the finished premises, so that at the start not to spend money also on repairs. The necessary workshop was found in Korolev, near Moscow.
A lot of time was spent on the choice of suppliers. HatiFood project did not fit private traders, offering to buy meat in small volumes. In this case, it would be necessary to independently organize the slaughter process to obtain a veterinary certificate, or to do without it. Therefore, they looked only for large and reliable suppliers, the meat of which is accompanied by the necessary documents. Hati founder only selected farms that did not use antibiotics and growth stimulants.
Although domestic animals that are predators have natural protective mechanisms against harmful microorganisms, nevertheless, each batch of products is sent to the laboratory for research - for the presence of pathogenic microorganisms. As a result, in order to find reliable suppliers, several dozens of enterprises had to be changed. “Those with whom we are working now were searched by trial and error,” adds Andrei.
Hati products use the entire animal carcass. Not scraps that are no longer suitable for cooking for people, but all parts of the carcass. The first butcher of the project could not put up with this at all.
“He was horrified. How is it - to use a tenderloin or sirloin for animal feed? For a long time he did not agree that meat should not be salted and pepper, that water should not be added to give the mass elasticity. He suggested adding a bow that the dogs should not eat. In the end, we did not work together. This man was harassed that we feed the dogs good meat, ”says Andrei Pushkin.
As a result, another butcher was taken to this place, who at first also asked similar questions, but still managed to overcome his previous professional habits and now clearly follows the cooking recipe.
Hati sausages are made from chicken, beef, turkey and rabbit. The composition is added by-products of the first category, and in some varieties - whole vegetables. Dyes, flavors, preservatives, gluten, grain and synthesized additives are not used in the production.
It takes one business day to produce one batch. First, the butcher removes meat from the bones of the carcass. Then the meat and offal are chopped, and then mixed with the rest of the ingredients.After this, the product is squeezed (packaged) into the shell, clamped with clips and enters the shock freezing chamber. The packaging process for 200 kg of product takes about 3-4 hours.
Hati food is stored in freezers. To feed an animal, food must first be thawed and put in a bowl, freeing from packaging.
Now Hati sausages from chicken cost 49 rubles per 100 grams, from turkey - 59 rubles, from beef 79 rubles, from a rabbit - 99 rubles.
Some buyers ask again if there is an error. “They are surprised that this is the price per 100 grams, not per kilogram. But beef of this quality cannot cost 79 rubles per kilogram. Even kits for dogs, which are “unformatted” for human consumption, are more expensive, ”Andrei says.
Some buyers compare the cost of Hati feed to the cost of canned meat and dry food from industrial production. They are cheaper than products manufactured by Andrei Pushkin. “But in this feed there is either no meat (meat and bone meal, animal protein hydrolyzate is used), or there is meat for the quality of“ for dogs ”, that is, vein trimmings, cutlet forcemeat and all that cannot be sold in unprocessed form for human consumption,” he explains.
After the launch of the project, the main site for selling Hati products became the project site. Now, when ordering from 2500 rubles, delivery in Moscow is free. If the order is for a smaller amount, then the delivery will cost 189 rubles.
Over time, more purchases began to bring social networks. The project has pages on almost all social networks, but Instagram was the most selling. The founder of Hati suggests that this is due to the fact that here the potential buyer sees real reviews from other buyers. So it’s easier for him to decide to buy a new product. To increase the number of sales through social networks, it is supposed to increase activity in them, first of all, on VKontakte.
The project collaborates with the MoscowFresh online store, which purchases Hati products and then independently sells them. It is now planned to master offline sales: an agreement has already been signed with one pet store, negotiations are underway with another.
“We put our Hati freezers in the store and see how sales go.” For us, this is a new economy (the cost of a freezer must be recaptured) and a new channel. So far we have no such experience, ”says Andrei.
Hati works with breeders - they are the authority for those who buy dogs or cats from them. Therefore, their recommendations on the choice of food for a pet are listened to. “They are sometimes trusted even more than veterinarians. We can motivate breeders to cooperate with us with a one-time payment for an attracted customer or a percentage of sales. Such a sales channel shows itself well, but the problem is that there are only a few breeders who can sell and, most importantly, know how to do it in social networks, ”summarizes Andrei Pushkin.
Most often, Hati food is bought by small dog owners. To feed large dogs with such food for their owners is too expensive. Cooking porridge, in which they add a little meat, is cheaper. Now the buyers of the project are only residents of Moscow and the Moscow region.
Andrei Pushkin says that his first project - the zoo hotel “Sir Cat” - quickly became popular. And to attract customers, he and the team of this project practically did not have to make efforts. Andrei expected that this would be the case with Hati.
“We assumed that we would now offer the market a new product - natural animal feed, and they would immediately tear it off with our hands. It was our mistake, of course, just by turning on ads, nothing happens. Every customer needs to be “escorted,” says Pushkin.
Many are afraid to switch to natural food because of fears that raw meat may contain parasites.Others are stopped by the inconvenience - the need to store food in the refrigerator and defrost it.
“There are two cases where sales occur as if“ without our efforts. ” The animal eats its feed poorly, and the owner is forced to constantly change feed, and then finally finds us. Or the owner is already feeding his pet natural raw food, and we just make it easier for him and save time, ”Andrei Pushkin shares his observations.
At first, the Hati team managed their pages on social networks in the same way as the team of the hotel chain “Sir Cat” - published funny photos, but did not write about the features of their products and did not always respond quickly to comments.
“We thought that we would publish a beautiful photo of meat, and everything would fly in terms of sales. We are used to in “Sir Cat” that people correspond in the comments to our posts, and we “sleep”. Hati is now responding to comments as soon as they appear. It seems obvious that this should be so, but for us it was a discovery, ”Pushkin explains.
In the launch of the Hati project, its founder invested about 8 million rubles. For faster payback, he plans to launch new products in the near future - cookies made from natural meat. In composition, they will be the same as sausages. For their production, you will need to buy an oven in which they will be baked and dried.
Another novelty in the assortment is jelly for dogs. For its preparation will use bones from which meat is cut for Hati sausages. Now these bones are thrown out, and in the production of jelly they will become an ingredient for him, and not waste.
“It’s too early to talk about payback periods. We exist recently and are only exploring the market. To go to zero, we need to grow in terms of sales at least once every six. And we will try to reach this indicator before the end of the year, ”Andrei Pushkin quotes the figures.
Organization of a store for the sale of feed, sales
So we got to the most important thing. Whatever path you take: whether you organized your production, or decided to buy ready-made feeds, you need to decide something with the sales.
However, in the manufacture of feed for cattle, one should not particularly worry: given the normal price and quality, any farm that is engaged in cattle breeding will be happy to take them.
But what exactly needs to be considered before opening an animal feed store? First, you need a room. Unlike production, it is better to place it closer to the central part of the village.
Alas, the rental costs will be considerable. It will be necessary to obtain permission from the sanitary-epidemiological station, from firefighters and the local municipality.
In Rospotrebnadzor you get a hygiene certificate. In addition to it, you will need to obtain veterinary opinions for each batch of raw materials and finished products, as well as hygiene permits for them.
Finally, the pet food store business plan includes staff payroll costs. It will include a salesperson (or several), a customer service manager, and a marketer involved in product distribution strategies. If sales volumes are large, individual drivers and movers will be required.
Do not forget about buying office furniture, computer equipment and shop windows.
Profitable Business: Dog Food Production
The direction for the manufacture of pet food today is actively developing. And if earlier only a few foreign giants were represented on the Russian market, today small shops occupy their niches here. The greatest demand among consumers is used for dog food economy class.
For businessmen, this is a great option to start their own activities. And over time, you can expand the company, offering products of the middle and elite class.If you organize an enterprise producing high-quality feed and establish sales channels, you can become the owner of a profitable business.

- Market saturation is average.
- The complexity of starting a business is 6/10.
Pet foods are good because they do not require additional processing - saving the owner’s time and energy in preparing a “dinner” for his pet. Quality products contain all the necessary trace elements to maintain the health of the dog.
The domestic segment of the animal feed market is developing rapidly. Just ten years ago, the shelves of Russian stores were filled with products of foreign giants. However, today many entrepreneurs, figuring out which production is profitable to open in 2019 with minimal investment, positively perceive the idea of creating small enterprises for the production of feed mixtures.
The most demanded in this area is such a business as the production of dog and cat food: mixtures for birds, fish and rodents are significantly behind them in terms of sales, occupying a modest 15–20% of the market. These products owe their popularity to numerous advantages:
- No need to waste time cooking
- Feed stocks can be stored for a long time,
- The finished product contains all the substances necessary for the animal,
- There are special feeds for old, sterilized or suffering from any diseases cats and dogs.
Sales statistics show that the level of demand during the year remains virtually unchanged. Thus, after the enterprise reaches the planned production volume, the businessman can count on constant income.
It is better for a novice entrepreneur to organize a workshop for the manufacture and sale of feed by weight.
In this case, you can significantly save initial cash costs and time - no need to develop and register a brand. Sometimes branding takes up to 12 months.
Over time, when the company reaches breakeven, it is possible to organize the production of dry dog food under its own brand. So the products will be recognized by customers.
Whatever "scenario" of business development you choose - first of all, think over the assortment of goods. The type of purchased equipment and raw materials will depend on this.
Main product division:
- Dry food. These products are on the market in a huge assortment. Its release will not require impressive costs for the purchase of raw materials. The product does not require special packaging - it can be stored until shipped to customers in paper or plastic bags. Dry food for dogs produced in Russia will certainly be in demand among pet owners, as it is inexpensive.
- Wet food. This type of product is more natural and, according to veterinarians, better suited for pets. It is imperative for the entrepreneur to provide for the release of wet food, as its price is slightly higher than dry.
Feed is also divided into subspecies. Specialized stores sell products designed for different dogs - for active, small, thoroughbred dogs. And this is a fairly impressive market segment! And if at first such feeds can not be included in the main product line, then in the future, be sure to think about it.
The dog food business plan also contains product formulations. A person who does not know the rules of feeding pets will have to entrust this matter to specialists - veterinarians.
TU is compiled for each type of feed, which will be followed in the future, releasing food for dogs.
The production of natural dog food can be supplemented by the release of "snacks" for pets - special crackers, seeds, chips.
Additional equipment costs will be required, but this way you will expand the range to the maximum.
When developing an assortment, remember that your products must be somewhat different from those that competitors supply to the market. This can then be used as the main advertising move.
Dog food manufacturing technology
The dog food production line processes meat by-products - bones, fat, veins, entrails. Canned foods contain more meat. For the manufacture of dry granules, as a rule, waste from meat processing plants is used. Dry ingredients — meat and fish and bone meal, soy, cereals, concentrates of vitamins and minerals — also enter the workshop.
Natural meat raw materials are used only if premium feed is planned. In this case, all the costs of buying expensive components pay off with the high price of the finished product.
All delivered raw materials must comply with established quality indicators and be transported in compliance with temperature and humidity conditions.
Within the walls of the enterprise, components are stored in a well-equipped warehouse with a functioning air conditioning system.
Modern equipment allows you to receive products in automatic mode - human participation is practically not required. In general, the technology for producing dog food looks like this:
- Dosing and mixing the components according to the established recipe.
- Adding water to the mixture.
- Impact on the mixture with steam and pressure.
- Squeezing the mass through the heads of the machine.
- Drying the resulting granules.
- Spraying on dry food fat or flavorings.
Some types of feed are made by frying granules at high temperatures. So dense crispy pieces of dog food are obtained without the use of artificial substances that give it an animal-friendly aroma.
The manufacture of wet food is similar to the production of "human" canned food - the only difference is in the raw materials. Mixed raw materials are cooked in boilers, put up in cans and sterilized. An expensive line is required here. And since an extruder for feed production is cheaper, it is better for first-time entrepreneurs to produce only dry granules.
Technical equipment of the workshop
To buy equipment for the production of dog food, you will have to spend most of the initial investment. Choose devices taking into account what type of production is planned for release. Only cooperate with reliable suppliers of technical equipment!
The following machines are included in the standard dry dog food production line:
- several types of crushers
- dispensers with scales,
- drying chamber
- packing machine.
The price of equipment for the production of dog food depends on its power and degree of automation. An entrepreneur will be able to purchase an “average” line with productivity up to 1 ton of products per shift for 1,000,000-200,000 rubles. But this is far from the limit of the cost of a set of machines - the price range can reach 10,000,000 rubles. Cheaper equipment involves the use of manual labor.
Novice entrepreneurs should not buy high-power equipment - this is a huge financial cost. In addition, without established sales channels, the line will be idle.
To place equipment for the production of dry food for dogs, a lot of free space is not required - the machines are quite compact.
But you will need to provide separate areas for a warehouse, a quality laboratory and staff rooms. As a result, it is necessary to look for a production area of at least 200 m2.
This will require water, sewage, ventilation, heating, electricity. A lot of money is sometimes spent on refurbishing the workshop.

Profitability of the planned business
If we take it as a minimum, the organization of an enterprise for the production of dry dog food will require from 2500000 rubles. This will include costs:
- formulation development and registration of activities,
- purchase of equipment
- preparation for the work of the workshop,
- provision of raw materials.
You can reduce capital costs to 2,000,000 rubles by purchasing supported equipment.
A medium-power dog feed machine will produce up to 1 ton of product per shift. I sell all released goods at a wholesale price of 20,000 rubles / ton; you can earn up to 600,000 per month. These are excellent profitability indicators for a small enterprise.
In order to quickly reach the breakeven point, it is important to quickly establish sales channels for finished products. It is much more profitable to cooperate with wholesale buyers. Sell feed to private pet stores, private shoppers, veterinary clinics, and nurseries.
How to open the production of natural food for dogs and cats
Carrying out various studies, I often recall the monologue “There are many friends of Horatio, which our sage did not dream of”, especially when I discover empty niches for business right “under my nose”.
Actually, it all started with preparations for the creation of the production of compound feed and extruded feed.
Gradually delving into the essence, I learned that those very extruders use not only for preparing food for pigs, poultry and cattle, but having changed the silent formula, they rivet dog food.
Of course, whether such food is good or bad is a moot point. Having studied the subject a little, I was surprised to find that dry food is good (or almost good), but their constant use for dogs and cats is not recommended.
I read a lot of information and debates on this subject, but for me personally, the “point” was the fact that most (if not all) specialized high-level nurseries practically do not use dry food when growing. You must admit who best knows “what is good and what is not good”, whoever earns money from this.
I think that to challenge such a statement will be difficult. Then the question creeps in, and what do they feed their pets with? And they use natural minced meat with mineral and vitamin supplements to feed dogs and cats. Moreover, the suppliers are small specialized companies, and small workshops involved in its production.
True, it is extremely difficult to find such a product in stores because of the banal reason all over the country of such small manufacturers are a few. What is not the idea of creating your own business?
Why is the production of natural food for cats and dogs a successful business?
- The first is how paradoxical it sounds, but the real cost of natural feed, according to the chain:
mini-shop - shop - buyer
2 times lower than dry feed. Why it happens? It's simple, the cost of production of dry feed is higher due to the energy intensity of the production cycle itself, plus the cost of delivery and marketing, the maintenance of a large plant, the margins of intermediaries. Small production has a higher cost of raw materials, but there are practically no other articles and, at the output, we have cheaper products.
By the way, if you have enough strength and most importantly desires, I will publish an article with the cost of production of natural feed, but already at the first stage I came to the conclusion that if you put a price on a product similar to dry feed, you can use not only the second category meat, but even the first one ( mechanical collapse). What is used for cooking sausages and other meat products.
- The second - people who are fond of their pets (the so-called "dog lovers" and "cat-dogs") spend even very decent money on the maintenance of their pets.Moreover, marketing research of large manufacturers of dry food for dogs showed that the demand for their products is stable and not dependent on financial, economic and even political crises. But the really influencing factors on demand are really radical, I don’t want to voice them, I can only say that if it does, then there’s no need to talk about business at all.
But not only that, demand is stable and inelastic. The trend towards a “healthy” lifestyle of pets is quite real, which actually gives huge advantages for natural feed. From this position, the mini-workshop will have stable demand and, as a result, stable profit all year round, regardless of financial winds and economic storms.
Sounds, of course, funny, but to be honest, dog hairdressers, sewing workshops for dogs and so on sound even more absurd, but at the same time it's all real.
- Third, the organization of the production of natural dog and cat food is very simple, while not requiring large financial investments. Honestly, this business can be called an idea with minimal investment.
How to organize a mini-workshop for the manufacture of natural feed for pets?
Actually, all the main technological nuances of organizing such production are similar to the creation of a workshop for the production of semi-finished meat products, which I talked about in an article about equipment for the production of cutlets here. I will not repeat, we’ll better talk about the features.
After purchasing the equipment and arranging the workshop itself, we will need a formulation and technical specifications (technical conditions) for the production of certain types of feed. Moreover, small capacities allow you to be mobile and organize the production of a large range of products. Where to get the recipe?
It will optimally turn to specialized veterinary institutes; they can easily issue a huge number of different variations of feed.
But my advice is after receiving "scientific" data from specialized authorities, contact the nurseries and thus "kill two birds with one stone."
On the one hand, they will be able to give recommendations from a practical point of view what is best for dogs or cats, on the other hand, close cooperation will make it possible to obtain a wholesale client in the future.
As for the approval of the technical specifications, everything is a little more complicated, on the one hand it can be done independently, the procedure is clearly defined. True, this method will take a lot of time, on the other hand, you can turn to specialized law firms that will do it quickly but certainly more expensive. But you will have to go through this procedure.
The final step is marketing. It is clear that the bulk of dog and cat food diverges through specialized stores and there is a problem, such outlets do not have refrigeration equipment for storing natural feed.
It is very expensive to buy and “distribute” such equipment, and they are unlikely to decide to buy it on their own. The only way out is to sell through ordinary stores, they definitely have such equipment.
But such an implementation will require you to invest in local advertising.
To be honest, the business idea of producing natural dog food is one of the few that requires a "massive" advertising campaign using local newspapers, magazines, and even television. At the same time, such investments in advertising will also quickly “beat off”.
We put an ellipsis on this, after all, the plans are to publish a full-fledged business plan in this area, you can ask questions right there in the comments or in a group on VK, do not forget to subscribe to the site and join our group.
The production of feed for animals and other pets each year increases by 20%. Experts believe that the most profitable now is the production of dry food for cats and dogs.
The need is growing due to an increase in the number of pets, and the main increase is made up of those users who abandoned home products in favor of purchased ones.
According to statistics, 70% are bought for cats with feed, and 30% for dogs.
For a month it is about 600 rubles for one cat. For a dog, this figure is twice as much.
There are feed classes:
- Economy (30% of sales). It consists of cereals, meat and bone meal, beef fat, colorants and flavorings. It is absorbed by the animal’s body by about 25-30%. Retail price - from 70 rubles / kg,
- Standard (40% of sales). Contains up to 30% of meat waste and protein hydrolysis products. The remaining components are corn, rice, barley, and vitamin supplements. The food is absorbed by the body by 35–40%. Retail price - from 110 rubles / kg,
- Premium (25% of sales). Grain and vegetable mixtures, meat offal, vitamins and minerals serve as raw materials for such feed. The degree of digestibility reaches 50-60%. Retail price - from 200 rubles / kg,
- Super premium (5% of sales). It consists of meat waste, beef blood and liver, freeze-dried meat and dried vegetables with the addition of vitamin complexes. It is absorbed by the body of the animal by 80%. Retail price - from 400 rubles / kg.
Obviously, a novice entrepreneur should try his hand at the Standard segment: if the project is successful, you can try to produce products that are more expensive or cheaper.
Within each price category produce:
- Dry food (humidity - less than 12%). The production of dry food for dogs and cats does not require sophisticated equipment, and storage requires strict adherence to microclimatic conditions and tight packaging,
- Wet food (humidity - more than 12%). It is more easily absorbed by the animal’s body and looks like natural food. However, in the manufacture of wet feed, it is necessary to withstand the temperature and ensure sterility.
According to the method of producing food for dogs and cats, ensuring its safety for a long period, distinguish:
- Canned wet food in sterile packaging,
- Frozen food that should be stored in the refrigerator.
Finally, feeds are classified according to their nutrient content:
- Complete feed that fully meets the animal's food needs. May be the only product in the diet of a cat or dog,
- Incomplete feed. It does not contain a complete set of nutrients, and therefore requires the addition of animal and other types of food to the diet,
- Special-purpose food that causes a certain physiological effect (cleansing of the stomach, kidney treatment, hair improvement).
Recommended feed composition
|Indicator||For kittens||For cats||For puppies||For dogs|
|Methionine and cystine,%||1,5||1,5||0,8||0,70|
|Vitamin A, IU / kg||10000||5000||5000||5000|
|Vitamin D, IU / kg||1000||500||500||500|
|Vitamin E, IU / kg||80||30||50||50|
Feed Raw Materials
- Flour from soy, wheat or corn,
- Meat and bone, bone, feather, fish meal,
- Animal fats,
- Vitamin and mineral complexes,
- Aromatic compositions.
For the production of canned and frozen feed mainly natural raw materials are used with a lower depth of preliminary processing:
- Lips, abomasum, scar, intestines, udder,
- Trimming from the heads,
- Lungs, trachea,
- Tails, legs, ears,
- Animal fats,
- Cereal and vegetable mixtures,
- Vitamin and mineral complexes.
To ensure the necessary quality of the finished product, special attention should be paid to the processes of procurement, transportation and storage of raw materials. So:
- Raw materials must be fresh. The supplier confirms its origin and safety with certificates and veterinary accompanying documents,
- At the enterprise, it is necessary to ensure the storage conditions specified by the manufacturer for the raw materials. Some products will need a refrigerator
- All perishable products are stored with the addition of fungal and mold inhibitors in a sealed package.
Benefits and types of purchased feed
- Saves time (food does not need to be cooked).
- Balanced composition.
- Convenient form of release.
Cat and dog food is produced in several categories:
- Economy class,
- standard, approximately 50% more expensive
- premium, 170% more expensive than the standard.
The more expensive the feed, the better it is, the more useful additives should be in it.
Types of cat food:
- dry (most popular),
There is a subcategory of feed for sterilized animals, diet, for kittens and cats, over 8 years old. Developed special nutrition for individual breeds.
Dry and wet foods are prepared from cereals, meat and fat (a small part), adding vitamins and minerals. In canned more meat, offal, cartilage, bone meal, fat. Additives are the same as dry ones. Sometimes cereals are used.
Stages of building a business
How to establish feed production? Step-by-step instruction:
- You need to start by studying the market and the prospects of the enterprise. Identify suppliers of raw materials.
- Registration of an enterprise (IP or LLC).
- Rent or purchase premises.
- Acquisition and installation of equipment.
- Obtaining permits for the operation of the premises.
- Search for colleagues.
- Decide which category of feed you will produce. Keep in mind that most consumers buy economy food for their pets.
- Drawing up a business plan.
- Creating a network of distributors.
When planning the manufacture of canned feed, consider the features of transportation and storage of raw materials. It must be of high quality until processed.
Therefore, it is necessary to provide for the possibility of cooling.
Equipment for the production of pet food is bought in the form of a finished line or separately, but it is more expensive and requires compatibility of units.
The middle line consists of two sets of extruders (expanders), crushers, feeders, mixers. We need weighing, drying equipment, dispensers.
There are many products for animals of well-known companies on the market. Therefore, it is not easy to interest buyers. Can:
- Offer affiliate programs to pet stores.
- sponsor stocks and animal shows.
- To organize cooperation with informal communities of cat and dog lovers is not so much for sale as for the dissemination of information about the product.
- Post product information in the region’s media.
- hand out leaflets in crowded places.
Sale of animal feed as a business is carried out:
- through personal realization,
- through specialized stores,
- in the markets
- dog breeding organizations,
- animal lovers clubs.
Features, Risks, Cons
- Cheap equipment often breaks down, resulting in downtime and additional investment.
- The food of an unknown company may not be in demand for a long time.
- Products themselves made according to a dubious recipe may be of poor quality.
- Commodity prices may rise.
More likely to make a profit is the production and sale of goodies for dogs and cats.
These are sausages, cookies, bait. Starting capital here is from 700 thousand rubles.

- Preparation of raw materials. Meat waste, grain mixtures, meat and bone meal, vitamin supplements and other feed components in the required proportions are added to the receiving hopper of the processing line,
- Shredding. In crushers and mills, the mixture is ground to the consistency of semolina or coarse flour, and then sieved to remove large particles,
- Mixing. Industrial blenders containing up to a ton of raw materials, thoroughly mix the raw materials for uniform distribution throughout the volume of all components,
- Extruding. The pasty mass is evaporated for a minute, and then fed to the extruder. Here, the mixture is pushed with screws through the figured holes and at the outlet cut with a rotating knife to the granules of the desired size,
- Drying. At this stage of dry food production, excess moisture is removed from the granules for 15 minutes. If the process is carried out faster, they will become brittle and begin to crumble during further processing,
- Cooling. The granules that are hot after drying are cooled to room temperature within 7–10 minutes. This operation is necessary to prevent condensation on their surface during packaging,
- Frosting. In the pellet mill, granules are processed through nozzles with animal fats and aromatic compositions that improve the taste and appeal of animal feed,
- Packing and packaging. The machine packs the product into branded packages and seals them. Dog food is poured into packages of 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg, for cats - 0.5 kg, 1 kg and 5 kg. The finished product is transported to the warehouse.
The wet feed production process consists of similar steps, but extrusion takes place at lower temperatures and pressures. Soft granules after this are not dried, but treated with water. Then the semi-finished product is passed through a refrigerator to achieve the necessary moisture indicators and obtain a porous structure. Finally, inhibitors are added to the product to prevent mold, and at the last stage, they are packaged in sealed bags.
The technology for the production of canned food is based on the use of raw by-products, which are mixed with vitamin and mineral supplements and grain fillers.
The production process includes:
- Preparation of raw materials. The meat and offal are removed from the refrigerator and brought to room temperature. Raw materials are crushed with the addition of vitamin complexes, minerals and grain fillers,
- Mixing. All components are thoroughly mixed in an industrial mixer. During processing, the temperature of the mixture is increased to stimulate the processes of gelatinization of starches and protein denaturation,
- Packaging. The hot mixture is placed in jars at high temperature, which are then sealed with a sealed lid. Heating prevents harmful microorganisms from entering the finished product,
- Sterilization. Sealed cans are heated to a temperature of 120 ° C and kept hot for about three minutes. During this time, the remaining pathogens inside are completely neutralized,
- Packing. After cooling to room temperature, the cans with food are supplied with labels, packaged in boxes and taken to a warehouse.
Each manufacturer creates their own recipes and production technologies for animal feed. These techniques represent the valuable intellectual property of the company, and therefore are strictly protected. Outsiders cannot get access to information, as a result of which novice entrepreneurs have to pay a lot of money to specialists who can create new recipes.
In addition, when using his own recipes, a businessman must develop and register a standard technical document in the Committee for Standardization that regulates the requirements for raw materials and describes all stages of the production of food for cats and dogs. The basis for such a technical specification is the same GOST R 55453-2013.
Finally, to confirm the conformity of the finished product with quality and safety standards, the manufacturer will have to obtain an official certificate - a certificate or declaration. These documents have equal force, and therefore the entrepreneur has the right to choose any of them.
At the enterprise should be separately allocated:
- Raw material warehouse
- The main workshop with a line for the production of food for dogs, cats,
- Finished goods warehouse,
- Premises for storage and sanitization of inventory and containers,
- Bathroom with shower
- Dressing room and rest room for workers,
- The office of administrative staff.
Subject to these requirements, the total area of the premises may be 300-400 m². The workshop needs ceilings with a height of 4 m, as a set of equipment for the production of animal feed includes storage bins.
The necessary engineering systems include:
- Refrigeration equipment for storing perishable raw materials,
- Fire warning system and fire extinguishing means,
- Autonomous or centralized heating system,
- Water supply and sewerage
- An electric network with a capacity of at least 120–150 kW,
- Supply and exhaust ventilation with filters to remove contaminants from the air.
In preparing the premises for the organization of the production of granular feed, it will be necessary to ensure compliance with certain sanitary standards:
- Design technological processes in such a way as to exclude cross or counter movement of raw materials and finished products,
- Avoid storing detergents and other substances in the production room that are not related to the process,
- Arrange sewers in such a way as to avoid contamination of raw materials and finished products,
- Protect the premises from rodents or insects,
- To carry out monthly disinfection treatment, disinfestation and disinfection of industrial premises and equipment for the production of feed.
Feed Production Equipment
- Line productivity - 500 kg / h,
- Energy consumption - 108 kW,
- Occupied area - 90 m²,
- Necessary staff - 5 people.
A complete list of equipment for the production of dog and cat food, built on the basis of this line, will include the following items:
- Technologist. Must understand the methods of preparation and processing of raw materials, be able to choose the optimal operating modes of machines and mechanisms,
- The operators. The main requirements for employees are responsibility, diligence, experience in servicing equipment for the production of dog food,
- Support staff. The enterprise will not be able to function without loaders, auxiliary workers, a storekeeper, a forwarding driver,
- Sales representatives. Negotiate with wholesale buyers, enter into cooperation agreements, collect applications. Work experience - from two years,
- The operator of receiving applications. It takes orders from sales representatives, forms invoices and transfers them for assembly to the warehouse,
- Purchasing Manager. Searches for suppliers with the best conditions, ensures uninterrupted supply of raw materials to production.
At the initial stage, the workshop will work on a five-day schedule in one shift. As sales grow, you can consider hiring additional employees and switching to a two-shift mode.
|Position||Rate, rub.||Qty||Amount, rub.|
|Feed Production Technologist||28000||1||28000|
Ways to market feed
- Place booklets and posters in pet stores and veterinary clinics,
- Make presentations and sponsor cat and dog shows,
- Publish ads in specialized publications,
- Place posters on billboards,
- Post banners on specialized sites and posts on dog breeders' forums,
- Order promotional articles for authors of famous blogs.
Of course, an entrepreneur should strive to place his goods on the shelves of retail chains of a national scale. However, for a beginner, the cost of entering this market may be too high.Therefore, a business plan for the production of animal feed should include the possibility of marketing:
- Through your own website or other online stores,
- Through pet shops and kiosks of other entrepreneurs,
- In specialized pavilions in the markets,
- Through small retail stores with similar products,
- Directly to breeders and nurseries.
Investment in production
The cost of equipping the workshop allows us to imagine an approximate amount of investment in the production of dry feed. To attract the necessary funds, you can apply for a loan or try to get a grant to open a business for start-up entrepreneurs in 2019: in any case, investors will want to find out the payback period on investments. To do this, create an economic model of the enterprise:
Investments in feed production
|Opening a bank account||3000|
|Obtaining a Certificate||17000|
|Technical design of the workshop||100000|
|Rental at the time of installation of equipment||140000|
|Connection to utilities||30000|
|Connection of communication lines||3000|
|Raw materials for a month||3141600|
To open a workshop with a capacity of 88 tons of dry feed per month, about seven million rubles will be needed. An entrepreneur who does not have the opportunity to find such capital should think about what kind of business can be opened in the garage at home with minimal investment.
Also, an impressive amount will have to be allocated monthly to cover all production and non-production costs of the enterprise:
|Insurance premiums IP||2700|
|Bank account service||2200|
|Internet and communication||5000|
|Alarm System Maintenance||800|
|Deratization and pest control||7000|
|Fuels and lubricants||15000|
The cost of feed
|Component||Content%||Price, rub / kg||For 1 kg of feed, rub.|
|Beef 2 categories||7,4–15,0||140||14,0|
As a business, the production of animal feed and dry mixes for animals requires a certain amount of time to form a customer base. Therefore, in the first year, the workshop is unlikely to reach its maximum performance. At 70% loading, the volume of output will be 61.6 tons per month, which will require the purchase of raw materials in the amount of 3141600 rubles.
Monthly Feed Production Plan
|Product||Volume of production, kg||Price, rub / kg||Income, RUB|
The calculation of the main indicators of economic efficiency of the enterprise completes the development of a business plan for feed production:
Calculation of the return on feed production
|Gross income, rub.||4504000|
|Expenses per month, rub.||3939600|
|Profit before tax, RUB||564400|
|STS tax 15%, rub.||84600|
|Net profit, RUB||479800|
|Payback period, months||14,8|
If an entrepreneur does not have to share income with investors or repay a loan to small businesses from the state in 2019, then investments in the production of dry feed will fully pay off in less than a year and a half.
Decent income, the opportunity to take their place in the nascent market and a huge audience of buyers - this is the short answer why people are engaged in the business of producing food for cats and dogs. However, the entrepreneur must remember that animals are absolutely impartial consumers. If you save on ingredients or irresponsible to adhere to technology, then the pets will simply refuse the product, and the owners will immediately stop buying it.Therefore, only constant quality control at each stage of production will allow a beginner not only to survive, but also to achieve success in this area.
