About animals

Ragdoll cat

The photo shows a cat breed of ragdoll of American origin, its name in translation from English sounds like a "rag doll". It perfectly describes the character and behavior of this sweet creature. These are infinitely gentle, affectionate, slightly lazy animals that literally dissolve in the arms of their owners.

Origin of breed

The creator of the breed is an entrepreneurial woman from the city of Riverside in California, Anne Baker. In the 60s of the last century, she decided to conduct an experiment by crossing her Ango-Persian cat Josephine of white color with a Burmese coal-colored cat, who lived next door.

Josie was distinguished by a phlegmatic character, she was very gentle and affectionate. The breeder was delighted with the nature of her cat and decided to breed a breed whose representatives would inherit from Josephine her demeanor. Kittens were born with a beautiful color and character of the mother. One of them is Daddy Warbuks and became the ancestor of the ragdoll breed.

The breeder used cats and cats when crossing cats without a pedigree and did not keep records of mating. For this reason, she had problems with the registration of the breed, she simply was not recognized. However, the woman was not taken aback and in 1971 opened the International Organization of Ragdolls (IRCA).

The ancestor of the ragdolls was a white Angora cat

Ann Baker patented her business and started selling kittens, descendants of Josephine. Buyers concluded an agreement with her, according to which they were obliged to cross their cats according to the established rules and pay 10% of each pet sold to the breeder’s fund. After 4 years of disagreement within the community.

Some breeders split up and founded the Ragdoll Cat Society RFCI. Its organizers, Laura and Denny Daytona, wanted to achieve official recognition of the breed. The split led to high-profile litigation, but the efforts of the breeders were not in vain. The couple developed a breed standard that was later approved by the felinological associations - CFA, then GCCF, FIFe, and TICA.

Today, representatives of this line, thanks to their outward beauty and soft character, are becoming increasingly popular in America, Europe and even Australia.

Description of cat ragdoll with photo

Ragdoll cats are unusually beautiful. Outwardly, they look like their Burmese relatives, so they are often confused. However, the standard requirements for these pedigree lines are different. The main feature is bright blue eyes with a penetrating, smart look.

Ragdoll cats have blue eyes

Dimensions and Weight

Representatives of the American breed are quite large. The muscular, massive body of an adult cat can reach a length of 1 meter. The weight of a mature male is 9–12 kg. Cats are smaller, their mass varies between 6–7 kg.

Attention! In 1986, a ragdoll cat fell into the Guinness Book of Records as the largest at that time.

Breed standard

There are several standards for the Ragdoll breed, they provide for slight differences. Consider the requirements of the TICA organization for the exterior of animals:

  • a large, well-muscled, proportional body with a powerful, protruding chest,
  • short, strong neck, decorated with a luxurious fur collar,
  • a large wedge-shaped head with a well-defined pointed chin of medium size,
  • cats have strong cheeks,
  • the eyes are set wide and have an oval shape, the outer corners are slightly raised,
  • the color of the iris is blue,
  • the auricles are slightly inclined forward, wide at the base, pointed at the ends, the presence of small brushes is allowed,
  • the nose is straight, twice as long as wide,
  • limbs of medium length, rounded paws, hair grows plentifully between the fingers, the upper part of the hind legs is decorated with panties,
  • the tail covered with thick hair is quite long, tapering slightly towards the end,
  • the coat is long, soft, silky, with poorly developed undercoat,
  • mustache is white, thick.

Ragdoll is a very beautiful breed of cats, which also has an unusual history of appearance. To begin with, the founders - the cat Blackie and the cat Josephine, were not registered representatives of any breed with a good pedigree, just the opposite.

Blackie's cat looked very much like black Persian, and Josephine was white long-haired. As you probably guessed, Blacky's cat was black, hence his name. Mistress Josephine took the cat Blackie from her neighbor for mating, however, the kittens were born with a very nasty character.

The situation changed radically after Josephine got under the car and underwent a course of treatment at the animal clinic. The offspring that the cat gave after the accident and treatment was radically different from the previous one - the character of the kittens became very sweet and complaisant. Such a change prompted the owner of the cat, Ann Baker, to breed a new breed that would not only have excellent external characteristics, but also a wonderful personality.

Subsequently, Ann took other Persian cats for crossbreeding, and after a while she registered with the Association of Cat Lovers Ragdoll, thus creating a new breed. The important point is that everyone who wanted to have such a cat should have received a deductible by paying Ann Baker a certain amount. At least if the person wanted to register a kitten of the Ragdoll breed.

As you know, all over the world there were many people whom this situation did not suit at all, and therefore they ignored franchising, which caused a lot of litigation. Later, a certain group of breed fans even created their own association. Over time, the franchise has sunk into oblivion - it simply has not been extended, and now anyone can become the owner of a ragdoll breed.

In 1981, two breeders from the UK became interested in this breed, and transported several individuals to their homeland. Cats aroused considerable interest among amateurs, and in 1987 the Ragdoll Breed Club was created. Cat Fancy was officially recognized in 1990.

The influence of Persian and Burmese cats is clearly visible in the development of the breed.

Cats Ragdoll are kind, loyal and very smart creatures that get along well in a family of any size. They are happy to be involved in games and entertainment, retaining playfulness in adulthood.

Females are noticeably smaller than males, this breed is distinguished by a large physique and the correct shape of the muzzle. The ears are medium in size, the neck is short, the tail is long and fluffy, the legs are also long and strong. With all this, Ragdoll retains the elegance of the lines, and do not look heavy. There are many options for color, with various impregnations and shades. Life expectancy is 15 years.

Ragdoll cat has a very kind and peaceful character. These cute creatures are famous for their gentle and calm character, so they quickly become the ideal companion and pet for each member of the family. They get along with everyone and receive inner satisfaction, being in a family environment.

At the same time, cats are quite playful, curious, have a pronounced intellect and get along very well with children. In fact, we can say that this is one of the best breeds for family life and friendship with children, with the exception of people who are allergic to pet hair. After all, this is a semi-long-haired breed, which imposes some restrictions.

In addition, ragdoll cats perceive other domestic animals well, and dogs are no exception. If only the dog will not behave aggressively and unfriendly.

Ragdoll has an average level of activity, which can increase or decrease, depending on the environment and the host's approach to this issue. They can learn to come to the call, very obedient, and not very silent, especially when it comes to food. Ragdolls are truly capable of becoming attached to their family members.

Common diseases

Representatives of both mixed and pure ragdoll breed are susceptible to several serious diseases, and, in some cases, the question is about genetics. So:

  • hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a form of cardiovascular disease that Ragdoll inherits.
  • autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease - associated with DNA.
  • increased risk of calcium oxalate stones in the bladder.
  • predisposition to FIP (infectious peritonitis in cats).

A ragdoll cat needs careful grooming. In this matter, everything depends on the owner, since the breed itself is very beautiful, and this beauty must be constantly maintained. The cat needs to constantly comb out the hair, especially during molting.

Also note that your upholstered furniture will accumulate wool, which means that you will have to monitor not only the cat, but also the cleanliness of chairs and sofas. The undercoat is relatively small, which somewhat reduces the amount of hair lost, but you can’t only rely on it. Accept that it is up to you to take care of the pet. It is better to use a brush daily to prevent the formation of lumps.

Accordingly, you should not buy an animal for a child - such a responsibility may be too great for him. If you are not ready to do it yourself, it is better to buy a shorthair cat.

Claw trimming (once a week), brushing your teeth (at least a couple of times a week), ears and eyes are mandatory rituals that must be performed rigorously.

Favorite Ragdoll State

Of course, this does not mean that they are sedentary and passive, just the opposite, cats show great interest in everything new, for example, new guests, or if they bring a huge bag with new things, but there are emissions of energy when the animal rushes about the apartment, like an avid parkour. But still a favorite pastime is to relax, as in the photo above.

Ragdoll with a child

Ragdoll breed is ideal for families in which they can not resist, so as not to cuddle their beloved pet in their arms. Usually cats either endure or break out, but the ragdoll will immediately relax to a rag state and will rumble, enjoying every minute of squeezing.

Of course, this is a great gift for older people who prefer leisure time on the TV for their favorite series.

Cat care

Because of their reduced tone, an unexpected problem arose - they should not be thrown even from a small height. And all due to the fact that, contrary to all that is feline, a ragdoll does not have time (or is just lazy) to roll over in the air and land on its paws. Unsuccessful falling even from the table may result in injury. For the same reason, they jump poorly.

This breed has a lowered pain threshold, they can suffer bruises, if only the owner did not stop stroking them, losing pleasure.

The care is simple, cats molt a little, since there is practically no undercoat. It is enough just to wet your hand with water and stroke the cat, then wash off the coat from the palm of your hand. Once a week is enough. Do not try to bathe her - she hates the water, and with one sight of the water in the basin, the angel will turn into a wild bursting creature that scratches your hands. Actually, they do not need water procedures, so this is only for the better, less likely to catch a cold.

Scarlet Point

Buy a scratching post so that the cat itself can control the growth of claws, and does not spoil the furniture. Determine her place of rest, eating, and the place of the toilet. Ragdoll is smart enough, smart breed, discipline is not difficult. The main thing is to do it affectionately and with love.

Beautiful cat look

Although with such a breed it is impossible otherwise, they will not be able to cause an attack of aggression in any of the people.

Perhaps the most important thing in leaving is not to leave them alone, a ragdoll cannot stand loneliness. And do not be surprised that upon arrival from work the cat literally will not get off your hands, they really miss the owner.

Buying a cat

It is quite difficult to buy a ragdoll cat, so far it is a rare breed. Although there are a lot of announcements on Avito, it is highly likely to buy a Persian kitten in the class, the price of which is 10 times lower.

Ragdoll kittens

All kittens of the breed are always born only of white color, and only by the age of two their color changes for life. The mother's maternal instinct is very pronounced, she will exemplary care for the little kittens, carefully watching if any of the people wants to play with them. She will not interfere, but she will not leave alone.

The price in nurseries starts at 15,000 rubles, and depending on the class and pedigree can reach 45,000 rubles.

For nutrition, it is better to use ready-made feed premium or super premium. It is very important for health and beautiful coat balanced, rich in vitamins food.

Cat food

Adult cats are fed two or three times, kittens more often - up to five times a day.

From natural food, cats can be given:

  • Any lean meat
  • Sea fish, but be sure to douse with boiling water so as not to cause parasites,
  • Dairy and dairy products,
  • Vegetables, fruits, cereals.

Be sure to change the water for fresh a couple of times a day.

They eat slowly, stretching pleasure. You can not be afraid to overfeed the animal, they do not face obesity, they eat exactly as much as necessary. Leftovers should be thrown away immediately, and a cat that has soured may have an upset stomach.

Do not feed the animal with food from our table! Salt, sugar, spices, fried - all this will hit the cat’s liver and will not add health!

After a tight dinner, the cat will play a little, and will certainly come to your hands to soak on your knees, be sure to accompany you with a soothing purr.

And remember - we are responsible for those who have tamed!

Standard colors

Ragdoll breed has 3 types of color:

  1. Color point. The animals have dark legs and tail, and the Siamese mask covers the area of the eyes, nose and forehead, as well as half of the auricles. The main color of the coat on the chest, sides, abdomen and back is 2-3 tones lighter than the mask.
  2. Bicolor. Chest, limbs, abdomen are white, the coat on the back and sides is colored, the darkest areas are located on the tail, as well as in the area of the eyes and ears. The nasolabial triangle is white.
  3. Mitted. The main color of the coat is white. Darkening is only near the eyes, auricles, on the tail. On the muzzle there is a clear white triangle that delineates the nose and pads.

Each type of color has several varieties - strength, chocolate, purple, blue. Some European felinological organizations recognized other coat colors - red, tortie, tabby, cream. Regardless of the color of the coat, the mustache of a ragdoll cat is only white, and its eyes are blue.

Ragdoll character

This cat is ideal for families with children of different ages. She was called a rag doll for a reason - she allows herself to be squeezed as much as she wants, never shows discontent and aggression. The pet loves all members of the family, not allocating anyone. For him, the main thing is that the owner is always there. These animals are ready to sit on their hands for hours, purr and communicate.

Attention! Ragdoll cats are hard-pressed to part with the person they are used to. Due to separation, they may lose their appetite or become ill. But they are not too attached to the house, you can travel with them.

Before you get a pet, you need to find out the behavior and weaknesses of the representatives of this breed. They are very vulnerable and do not know how to protect themselves. Do not shout at the pet or be rude to him. This can cause stress and turn into a disease. Experts warn that you should not let ragdolls go for walks without supervision, but you can train them to walk in harness.

Due to the weak muscle tone, these animals do not know how to land on their paws, so you need to install grids on the windows so that the pet does not fall out. High feline complexes are dangerous for them. Failure to land may result in spinal injury.

Ragdolls are moderately playful and very smart. It is not difficult to train a kitten of this breed to a tray or scratching post. Pets love to talk. When the owner speaks affectionately to the cat, she always answers in a quiet, pleasant voice and immediately strives to climb into her arms for the next portion of affection.

To brighten up the purses of loneliness, while the owner is at work, it is worth having another pet. Ragdoll cats easily find a common language with representatives of other breeds and even with dogs. The hunting instinct is not developed for them, the joint keeping of a cat with a chinchilla or a rabbit is allowed. The rag doll hardly responds to parrots or small rodents.

Cats love children and are ready to play with them for hours on end. The pet will accept increased attention of the child with joy. The main thing is to explain to the baby how to properly handle a gentle creature. The animal never releases its claws, so the child will not suffer during communication with him.

Puberty and courtship

Cats of this breed grow slowly. The formation of the body lasts up to 3 years. When the estrus begins, the females behave with restraint, without causing inconvenience to the owners with heart-rending cries. Males are very courteous with their chosen ones, and many of them cannot forget their first love.

It is interesting to watch the cat caring for the cat before mating. He does not show persistence, instead the gentleman gives the lady a lot of affection and tenderness, purrs, rubs against her until she reciprocates.

Cat maintenance and care

Kittens quickly adapt to a new place, but at first babies can miss the workers of the nursery in which they grew up. In the first days of stay in the house, the pet can hide in a closet or under the bed, be sad and eat little. However, this will pass when the kitten feels the love of the new owners. It is important to give him more attention, often pick up, talk with a new family member.

It’s not difficult to take care of your pet. Long hair is almost devoid of undercoat, so no tassels are formed on it. It is enough to comb the cat 2 times a week so that it remains neat and beautiful. Bathing with ragdolls is not a pleasure; they are washed only when heavily soiled. By themselves, these animals are clean, they like to lick themselves every day before bedtime.

Pet care includes oral hygiene. To prevent the appearance of tartar, it is recommended to introduce special dental treats into the diet. It is necessary to examine the animal’s ears and once a week to clean the external part of the auditory canal with a sponge dipped in hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine solution. If a dark brown mass appears inside, you need to take an analysis for an ear tick.

Cats need to sharpen their claws. If the house does not have a specially designated place for these purposes, the pet will ruin the furniture. Every 2 weeks, it is recommended to shorten the claws by 1–1.5 mm with a nail clipper. Pets tolerate this procedure well if they are in the hands of the owner during the procedure.

Ragdoll cat is playing

Before you buy a kitten ragdoll, you need to get inventory:

  • a large tray with high sides and a dustpan,
  • filler
  • claw point
  • bowls for feed and water,
  • toys
  • comb
  • claw pliers.

Attention! It is important to prepare the house in advance for moving the pet - remove wires from the floor, protect windows with mosquito nets, and restrict access to high structures. If the apartment has poisonous plants, you need to get rid of them.

Feeding advice

Ragdoll - very large cats with excellent appetite, but at the same time they do not gain excess weight. Veterinarians advise you to feed your pet with super-premium food or holistic. The daily amount of food for an adult cat is 300 g, for a kitten - 120 g.

Ragdoll Blue Point United

You can treat your pet with boiled lean meat or steamed fish, twice a week it is useful to give an egg yolk. Kittens should have plenty of protein and vegetables. Whole milk, salty or sweet foods should not be given to cats, and fermented milk products will do good.

Health and Disease Prevention

Cats of this breed are naturally endowed with strong immunity. In the absence of hereditary pathologies, health problems usually do not arise. From the Persian ancestors some genetic diseases were transmitted to them:

  • hip joint dysplasia - the femoral head falls out of the joint, which can cause lameness,
  • hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - with such an anomaly, animals suddenly die from cardiac arrest at different ages,
  • polycystic kidney disease - the disease begins to appear in animals from 3 to 10 years and threatens the development of renal failure.

Attention! When buying a kitten, you need to study the medical certificates confirming that his parents did not have such health problems.

With good care, cats are not sick ragdoll. The main thing is to limit their contact with stray animals, to be vaccinated in a timely manner, to deworm and treat skin parasites.

How to choose a kitten

Ragdoll kittens need to be bought only from professional breeders. This breed is not very widespread in Russia, but nevertheless in Moscow and St. Petersburg there are nurseries in which its representatives are bred.

Ragdoll cats feed on breast milk longer and grow slower, so they are given at four months of age. By this time, the kids already know how to go to the tray, use a scratching post. Kittens are born with white fur, and their color is fully manifested only by 1.5–2 years.

Before buying, you need to study the documents - the pedigree, veterinary certificates of the vaccination. The breeder can get recommendations on feeding the pet, find out what he loves and what not.

The cost of a thoroughbred animal depends on the class, the purity of the pedigree, the titles of the parents. The average price of a pet class Ragdoll kitten is 20000-40000 rubles, and individuals suitable for breeding and participation in exhibitions and championships will cost more. You can buy an animal with hands without documents for 4000-5000 rubles, but there is no guarantee that it belongs to the breed of ragdoll.

Ragdoll kittens

The peculiarity of a true ragdoll - taking it in your hands, you can feel the animal relaxing, the body is literally limp in an embrace. Representatives of other breeds are usually tense when taken by strangers.

Pros and cons of the breed

After examining the feedback from the owners of ragdoll cats, we can conclude that these cute creatures have almost no flaws. They are valued for such qualities:

  • gorgeous appearance
  • peaceful character
  • good health,
  • ability to adapt to new conditions,
  • high intelligence and good learning.

The disadvantages of the breed include only excessive sensitivity. Ragdolls so acutely perceive separation from a person that they can get sick from longing. This must be taken into account for those who want to bring up a kitten.

Ragdoll cats are real plush toys that are nice to share square meters with. They do not arrange a pogrom at home, they love all households alike, patiently treat children and strangers. That is why they so quickly became popular and desirable not only in their homeland, but also on other continents.

Historical reference

The USA is recognized as the country of origin of the breed (with the RAG code), since it was here that ragdoll ("rag dolls") with reduced muscle tone were bred. Breeders took Josephine, a cat with a disability, as a basis (something between Angora and the Persian), who lost her ability to strain her muscles due to trauma, and began to secure this unusual property in feline offspring.

Test specimens of future ragdolls (as a result of mating Josephine with a Burmese male Pennels) began to appear in the 60s of the last century: they resembled Burmese cats, but only with a more massive backside, wide chest and thickened limbs.

It is interesting! The very first official ragdolls were Daddy Warbucks (the son of Josephine and Pennels) and the cat Fugianna (granddaughter of Josephine and the daughter of Warbuks), registered by the National Association of Cat Lovers in 1966.

Breeders sought to breed kittens with fur of 4 colors (chocolate, lilac, charcoal and blue) and three colors (color point, mitted and bicolor), similar to the colors of the Burmese cat. After registering the breed in CFA, breeders achieved recognition of ragdolls in WCF and TICA (1970). Later clubs appeared in France and Switzerland, the purpose of which was the development and improvement of pedigree qualities.

Some felinologists (including Susanne Arelli, general secretary of the Paris Cat Club) are convinced that selection work with ragdolls did not reach the final. Using the uncertainty of the criteria put forward for the breed, individual breeders sell Burmese cats as ragdolls.

In turn, adherents of the latter point to the visible differences between Burma and Ragdoll: the Burmese cat is smaller, has other skull shapes and a skeleton, as well as a colored chin (it is white in the ragdoll).

Ragdoll advocates believe that now we need to focus on improving two-color animals: in particular, get cats with color point color, which would be different from Balinese with a similar type of color. As soon as the breed standard becomes clearer, the difficulties of evaluating ragdolls at exhibitions will disappear.

Behavior, temperament

Outwardly, a ragdoll creates the illusion of tamed power. This large and affectionate cat is completely surrendered to the man, drooping like a rag doll when he picks it up (the degree of muscle relaxation is so great).

Looking at a ragdoll gives the impression of a massive plush toy that is not capable of aggressive attacks. And, indeed, the conflict-free breed almost knows no boundaries. By peacefulness and affection for people, this cat is ahead of all existing cat breeds.

Ragdoll Appearance

The formation of an adult animal is completed by 3 years of age. Ragdoll has a long muscular body with a tendency to be overweight (mainly in the abdomen and groin), a wedge-shaped head with a rounded muzzle, a silky thick coat with noticeable collar and “panties”, as well as a well-pubescent long tail.

It is interesting! Males (5.4–10 kg) are traditionally larger than females (3.6–8 kg), but cats are more slender and sophisticated. It is believed that their maximum weight and size of a ragdoll are gaining by 4 years.

The elongated and muscular body is noticeably heavier in the back, while the chest is quite wide and developed, and the interhumeral interval is equal to the width of the croup. On the stomach, as well as in the inguinal folds, excess fat is often deposited. The neck is strong, short and muscular.

Ragdoll, in contrast to similar breeds (Siberian and Neva Masquerade) has a flat space between the ears.

The head is medium, wedge-shaped, with pronounced cheeks turning into a well-developed muzzle with moderate jaws and chin. Tribal males often have more prominent cheeks. The length of the nose (with a permissible light break) refers to its width in a proportion of 2: 1.

They have a large oval shape, located slightly obliquely and at a great distance from each other.

Ragdoll is allowed only blue eyes (the brighter the better).

Medium (with rounded tips), slightly directed forward and wide at the base. Hair grows on the inside of the auricles; brushes on the tips of the ears are acceptable.

Ragdoll hair should be semi-long or long (the latter is preferable), have a soft silky structure, not tangled in tangles. The coat is not very tight to the body and moves when the animal is moving.

It is interesting! On the belly and sides, the hair is also half-long / long, but the longest hair grows around the neck and face of the ragdoll, forming a “collar” and “shirt-front”.

The hair on the forelimbs is shorter than on the hind legs, where it often folds into characteristic “panties”. A more abundant coat is observed in cats living in the northern regions. In summer, ragdolls intensively molt.

The mask covers the forehead, cheeks, vibrissa pads, nose and eyes, without affecting the bright area at the base of the ears. The chest, neck and chin remain white. The lower part of the neck is sometimes marked by a white line passing between the forelimbs through the stomach to the root of the tail.

Body color brightens from the back to the sides and stomach. The front legs are decorated with the same white “gloves”. Where white hair grows, the skin has a pink tint. The hind legs are completely white, with the exception of the area above the middle of the thigh. Around the knee joint only white hair is also allowed.

The coat is well stained. The color of the points (mask, ears and tail, with the exception of “L” on the face) should stand out clearly. At the base of the ears remains a bright area. On the muzzle, let’s say a symmetrical white triangle “laid” on the nose, vibrissae pads, lips, chin and flowing into a white “frill”. The symbol "L" on the face can reach the width of the outer corners of the eyes and must be strictly symmetrical. The chest, belly and four legs are white.

The back may be slightly lighter than points, but not pure white. On the back, white and colored spots are allowed (of different configurations and sizes). The ratio of pigments to the standard does not stipulate.

These include a short head, a thin or long neck, a pronounced transition between the cheek and muzzle (whisker break), a Roman or short nose, pointed or large / small auricles, a pale iris of the eyes, as well as their amygdala or narrow incision.

In addition, the list of defects includes:

  • color marks below the knee joints (for bicolors),
  • squat body
  • narrow chest
  • shapeless tibia
  • short limbs
  • fingers turned out.

Ragdoll breeds are also recognized as:

  • tail with a blunt tip, too short or knobby,
  • dry, short, or felted wool.

She threatens ragdoll with a coat color that does not fit into the breed standard:

  • for color point - any white spot or chin is darker than a frill,
  • for mitted - a lack of white color on the chin, as well as white areas not prescribed in the standard,
  • for bicolor - white areas on the ears / tail, whiskers of any color other than white, colored spots on parts of the body that should be white.

Important! Crossbreeding of ragdolls with other breeds is currently prohibited.

Ragdoll Colors

Age is important for describing ragdoll cats, the color of which is fully established by 2 years. Kittens are born milky in color, gradually acquiring new shades.

The breed belongs to long-haired, but average hair length is also acceptable. The standard strictly regulates the color of ragdoll wool:

  1. Bicolor. The color is dominated by a white tint, in which the body and legs are painted. In the center of the dark muzzle is a white spot in the shape of an inverted V.
  2. Color point. The main white color of the animal contrasts with the dark color of the tail, muzzle, ears, lower part of the legs.
  3. Mitted. A darker shade of wool is combined with a light belly, white chin and neck, as well as snow-white socks.

Color variety of the breed:

  1. Blue is a combination of light and dark gray.
  2. Forces. On a cream basis, dark chocolate-colored wool is acceptable.
  3. The purple ragdoll is a grayish-pink cat with a white base.
  4. Chocolate color is dominated by ivory wool.

Care and maintenance

Ragdoll cats need special care because of the physiological structure. A weak muscular skeleton makes pets awkward compared to other feline representatives. Climbing the ledges, furniture and window sills, these cats are worse than others overcome the descent. Lack of strength on the correct grouping does not allow to fall correctly on 4 legs, leading to dislocations or bruises.

Ragdoll is a long-haired type of cat with a rare undercoat, which greatly facilitates grooming. It is enough to use a simple brush 1-2 times a week, and when molting, take the procedure up to 1 time per day. Tidy representatives of the breed take good care of themselves, frequent bathing is not needed.

It is important to care for your ears, teeth and eyes. Food debris is stored in the oral cavity, which can cause tartar deposits. It is advisable to clean the cat's mouth weekly with a special paste.

Once a week, you need to inspect the ears of the ragdolls. If there is any discharge or dirt, the sink is cleaned with lotion and a napkin. Cotton buds are completely unsuitable for care, causing more harm.

A large ragdoll cat requires a lot of food, but it is also worth considering the sedentary lifestyle of a pet. Food can be either natural or completely composed of dry ingredients.

When feeding natural food, an adult animal consumes up to 0.3 kg of feed, and 0.1-0.2 kg, depending on age, is quite enough for babies.

When choosing a diet, it is important that neither an adult cat nor a ragdoll kitten consume the following foods:

  • raw meat without processing,
  • fat bird
  • pork
  • lamb
  • fish and chicken bones,
  • sweet,
  • sharp
  • salty
  • smoked meats
  • starchy vegetables
  • legumes.

Most cat breeds are recommended for high protein industrial feeds. Nutrition should be balanced and quality, containing a maximum of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. This provides super premium and higher feed. It is advisable to alternate dry and wet food, while adhering to one brand or manufacturer.

In general, the ragdoll breed has good immunity, which allows pets to live for at least 15 years. However, kittens should be vaccinated in time against such dangerous diseases as:

  • plague
  • rabies,
  • viral leukemia
  • rhinotracheitis,
  • boardtellosis,
  • panleukopenia,

When selecting pairs for pairing, both external parameters and character traits are taken into account. Therefore, when buying a kitten, you should first of all choose a reliable nursery.

In Russia, you can find about 30 clubs and ragdoll nurseries. The rating of the nursery affects how much the kitten will cost.

There are several breeders in Moscow:

  1. Albus Angelus * RU.
  2. Valley Tuberose.
  3. Sundoli cats.

How to choose a kitten

Due to the nature of the breed, the true colors of kittens appear only by the age of 24 months, so you should rely on photos of older cats from previous litters and parents.

The most reliable way to accurately determine the baby's belonging to ragdolls is to assess muscle tone. If you pick up the kitten, it will relax and go limp. During the game, the pet must remain active and cheerful.

Outwardly, the baby should resemble a Burmese and correspond to the general characteristics of the breed:

  • the color of the coat is light, but in no case dark or red,
  • blue eyes wide apart
  • the ends of the ears are always rounded,
  • the muzzle is strongly pointed against the background of thick cheeks.

An important characteristic of a thoroughbred ragdoll is the availability of a complete set of cat documents:

  • passports describing vaccinations,
  • metrics
  • certificates from the veterinary clinic,
  • content recommendations.

Horoscope Compatibility

Selecting a pet according to the zodiac sign means focusing on the character of the cat. Mild-hearted ragdolls are a companion to judicious Libra. This zodiac sign does not like to be alone, preferring devotion to the satellite. Cats of this breed love to spend time in the company, lying on the sofa or lap of the owner. An affectionate, unobtrusive breed will not interfere with business and will not require active games.

For lovers of soft toys and obedient pets, a cat of the ragdoll breed is best suited. Gentle kittens so sincerely accept affection that they will become the ideal companion for a single person or family with small children. Careful care of the animal will help to avoid joint injuries and maintain the fragile health of the ragdoll.
